Welcome to Eastern Connecticut Conservation District

The Eastern Connecticut Conservation District (ECCD) is a local not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping the towns and citizens of Eastern Connecticut with their conservation needs. The creation of the ECCD is a result of the reorganization of Connecticut’s eight county based soil and water Conservation Districts into five regional watershed areas: Northwest, Southwest, North Central, Connecticut River Coastal, and Eastern.
The service area of the ECCD encompasses thirty-six municipalities covering Windham and New London counties and part of Tolland County. Our service area includes the towns of:
Andover, Ashford, Bozrah, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Columbia, East Lyme, Eastford, Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Hampton, Killingly, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Mansfield, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Plainfield, Pomfret, Preston, Putnam, Scotland, Sprague, Sterling, Stonington, Thompson, Union, Voluntown, Waterford, Windham and Woodstock.

ECCD Welcomes New Staff

ECCD recently added two new employees to our staff.  Michael Soares and Maura Robie joined the ECCD team!  They will primarily be focused on USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) supported projects promoting improved soil health, cover crops and assisting farmers with other conservation practices.  Michael and Maura are located at our Norwich office.

A new phone system was installed at the USDA NRCS office resulting in all new direct dial numbers for ECCD staff co-located there.

2017 ECCD Plant Sale

ECCD is gearing up once again to offer a large variety of plants and shrubs for sale this spring. Plants must be pre-ordered using a downloadable order form and then picked up at either the Gales Ferry Ocean State Job Lot building, south end  on April 21 or 22, or at the Brooklyn Fairgrounds on April 28 or 29.  The orderform will be  is available here for download.
This year, anyone interested in ordering concolor fir or frazer fir seedlings must do so before March 10. 
A limited supply of extra plants will be available at each location for those that missed the March 31 ordering deadline.  Many native plant types are available. plus ever green seedlings and blueberry bushes. Those suitable for planting in a rain garden are identified.  Plant descriptions and an order form can be downloaded for your convenience. Plant descriptions will be available in the ECCD Outlook newsletter
Barley straw will be available this year.
